Tuk Band Performing at Bridgetown Market, Barbados Pocket Guide

Bridgetown Market

The streets of the Spring Garden Highway, on the outskirts of Barbados' capital city, Bridgetown, in the parish of St. Michael come alive in early August to host Bridgetown Market. This highway has been the new venue for the festival as its popularity over the years has allowed it to outgrow its original venue which was once at Pelican Village.

Bridgetown Market is considered to be the biggest street fair of Barbados' Crop Over Festival an takes place two (2) days before Grand Kadooment. A plethora of brightly painted stalls create the foundation on which this festival literally gets started from. Stalls where items of art, craft, jewellery, fashion and local cuisine are sold to both locals and visitors to the island.

This highway isn't just about items being sold from stalls but also about the very festive feeling that pervades the air surrounding this street fair. As you leisurely stroll around the grounds and absorb the abundance of culture that is on display, the sweet sounds of tuk music and calypso could be heard throughout Bridgetown Market.
