Atlantis Hotel
The Atlantis Hotel stands proudly as part of Barbados' history. Located in Tent Bay, in the beautiful and unspoiled parish of St. Joseph, this hotel was one of the first hotels on the East Coast of the island. It's existence was made possible by the new railway line to the East Coast (Belleplaine) which was completed in 1883. The railway proved quite useful throughout Barbados as traveling in those days was quite challenging based on the fact that horse and cart was the only mode of transportation at the time. Atlantis Hotel's original owner was Emmeline McConney. Throughout the various owners, the late Mrs. Enid Maxwell operated the hotel for over forty (40) years, thus making her the longest standing owner. The last owner was Sir Richard Haynes, member of the Haynes family, a prominent Barbadian family. His ownership took him into 2008 when he sold the property to its current owners, Kirby/Warden families. Despite the age of this hotel, a full refurbishment of the property and grounds went into effect and were completed in 2009 in order to preserve this piece of our past. The Atlantis Hotel now offers eight spacious rooms in the main building and two two-bedroom apartments next to the pool. The atmosphere at The Atlantis is uncomplicated yet stylish with its colonial furniture, vivid fishing boat colours and modern amenities. Dining at the Atlantis Hotel has become a favourite with the people of Barbados, especially on Wednesdays and Sundays. 120 persons can be easily seated on the inside while 40 can be accommodated for on the outside deck. If you are thinking of hosting a function at the Atlantis Hotel, this is not a problem as 200 persons can be accommodated for. Opened daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner with the exceptions of Sunday nights, you can be rest-assured that the Atlantis Hotel is certainly the ideal place for that special occasion. Whether it is a birthday, wedding, family reunion or business meeting, Atlantis Hotel wii prove itself to be the place to be while you are here in Barbados.
