Brandon's BeachBrandon's Beach is on the West Coast of Barbados, just on the outskirts of the capital city of Bridgetown and in the parish of St. Michael, with Brighton Beach, Fresh Water Bay and Paradise Beach to the north, and Bridgetown Harbour to the immediate south, and Carlisle Bay and Pebbles Beach a little further south. Brandon's Beach is a short walking distance from Barbados' cruise ship terminal, and therefore the ideal destination for passengers wanting to spend some disembarkation time on the beach. Brandon's Beach cannot be mentioned without referring to Brighton Beach as the two beaches merge into each other and appear to be one continuous beach. Both beaches are considered to represent the start of Barbados' West Coast beaches. Brandon's Beach possesses a wonderfully long stretch of white sand that is perfect for lazing and sunbathing. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available for renting, and there are conveniently placed changing facilities, toilets, showers and public telephones. The waters of the Caribbean Sea display every possible shade of blue, from deep rich hues, to rich topaz, to clear and transparent. There are a few rock and reef formations but the water here is generally calm and safe for swimming. There is a lifeguard on duty and further safety measures include a number of beach security personnel. If you'd like to try something more adventurous, why not try one or more of the beach games or watersports, such as volleyball, football and paddle tennis, or banana boat rides, water-skiing, windsurfing, kayaking, wave runners, and Hobie Cat rides. If you prefer motorized sports such as jet skiing, a water sports operator can take you further up the bay where there are less people in the sea. Brandon's Beach is also less than a mile from Bell Buoy which, along with Silver Bank, is one of the best known reefs in Barbados for snorkelling and swimming. Many people wear sea shoes here as there are a number of sea urchins in these areas near the reefs. When you are ready to eat, beach bar and restaurant Weisers sells food and drink and offers a casual atmosphere, music, conversation and local Caribbean food, with the facility for garden or beach side dining. If you have brought a picnic with you there are plenty of picnic tables sheltered under the shady trees lining Brandon's Beach. Brandon's Beach was given a makeover in March 2011 when 100 new trees were planted and the beach's surroundings were painted due to an joint initiative by two companies, FusionStorm Foundation of America and Barbados' National Conservation Commission (NCC).
