Bagatelle Great House

Bagatelle Great House in the area of Bagatelle, in St Thomas, Barbados was a former sugar plantation now reformed and put largely to use for the dining and entertainment pleasure of any member of the public, whether local or visitor. Built in 1645, the property has passed through numerous owners over the years and now it is home to several restaurants, which each potentially cater to a completely different set of customers.

The Lucky Horseshoe chain has recently opened its newest outlet in at the Great House. Offering 24 hour service, they offer breakfast lunch and dinner menus, so the patron can select from eggs and quesadillas to steak and burgers and everything in between.

 

Paulo's de Churrasco do Brazil is a Brazilian restaurant, recently opened in Barbados, which can only be described as providing a "meat lovers feast". The amount eaten is controlled by the patron based on the colour of the chip left in view of the servers. A dining experience at Paulo's calls for extreme vigilance.

 

The Chatter's Tea Room provides a nice, sedate venue for the ladies to come out dressed up, to meet, socialize and have long extended chats over tea, cakes, dainty sandwiches and the like.

Over the years, the grounds continue to be well maintained and manicured. There are various nooks and crannies, walkways and ponds and this has made the venue popular with couples who are seeking the ideal location to capture their wedding day memories. Event planners have sought it out for birthday parties, corporate functions and other special events.

 

The individual restaurants will have their own hours of business, however the Great House maintains hours of 12 noon to 6:00 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 12 noon to 2:30 p.m.; Fridays noon to 2:30 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. On Sundays, it is open from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

 

Bagatelle Great House is easy to find and can be reached from any number of directions. One good landmark to use would be the Simpson Motors roundabout, after which one would travel west, with the Simpson building on your right. Continue driving up the hill; keep straight at the traffic lights at Redman's Village. The Great House complex is on the right a few hundred yards after clearing the lights.
