Godings Bay

Godings Bay is on the West Coast of Barbados, in the parish of St. Peter, with Speightstown, Heywoods Beach and Port St. Charles to the north, and Mullins Beach and Gibbs Beach to the south.

Godings Bay is a popular, accessible beach, though often fairly quiet. Golden sands slope down gently to the calm, clear waters of the Caribbean Sea, and Godings Bay is the perfect place to relax with a book or take a leisurely walk.

Godings Bay is most well known in Barbados for its quaint church cemetery, with its centerpiece a completely hollow stone chapel, and with one notable burial.

Claudette Colbert was a famous twentieth century actress and film star who starred in more than 60 films. Born in France, and a resident of New York, Claudette Colbert made Speightstown her Barbados holiday home. She died on July 30th, 1996 in her beloved Barbados retreat, and was buried at Godings Bay Church Cemetery.
