Roebuck Street is located in Barbados' historic city Bridgetown. This stretch of street was formerly known as 'The Roebuck' and was once the prime wholesale commercial hub for Bridgetown.
It is believed that this street got its name from an inn which carried the same name where Barbados' House of Assembly met in 1679 or possibly earlier.
As per Swan Street back in the day, many of the store proprietors resided on the upper levels of their stores.
Looking back at old photos of Roebuck Street, an illustration of strong architectural heritage abounds.
