General Post OfficeThe island of Barbados has a developed infrastructure which may belie its 166 square miles. A part of that infrastructure includes communications whether by sea, air or telephone. The Post Office service provides several forms of this communication with the primary one being mail delivery to the network of over 90, 000 households on the island.
The main post office in Barbados is The General Post Office (GPO), which is located in Cheapside, St. Michael, directly on the outskirts of the capital, Bridgetown. A large concrete structure, it is by far the biggest, with a spacious main area upstairs, where stamps can be purchased, a large post box section (where persons and companies have their access to their personal mail boxes). A separate section downstairs receives customers who are sending or receiving parcels and there is also a small shop, where items like mail boxes for residential use can be purchased.
In addition to general mail delivery, there are other special services which are offered by the Barbados Postal Service. A special pick-up service can be availed of by other government offices as well as business places. This is facilitated by a phone call to the GPO to arrange the pickup from the respective office.
In keeping with modern technology and efficiencies, the GPO can boast of an e-commerce website. Use of this website allows customers the convenience of searching for and purchasing key items and services online. Stamps, memorabilia and other literature can be purchased online via this medium.
The General Post Office (GPO) also serves as the main hub for all the district post offices. The GPO is also home to the Barbados Philatelic Bureau.
Business hours for the General Post office are 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, Mondays to Fridays.
