BankingThe currency of Barbados is the Barbados dollar and it is attached to the US dollar at the fixed rate of BBD$. 1.98 to US$1.00. Conversion rates for other currencies change on a daily basis, these rates are clearly posted in the bank for your reference.
The Barbados currency is issued in Bank notes of $2.00, $5.00, $10.00, $20.00, $50.00 and $100.00. each note is a different color. Coins are issued in 1 cent, 5 cents, 10 cents, 25 cents and $1.00.
The US dollar is accepted across the island and in many cases the exchange rate outside of the bank will be BBD$2.00 to US$ 1.00. Where the price of an item is quoted in Barbados dollars you can safely divide the amount in half for the US$ equivalent. Most stores will accept major credit cards and travelers cheques as forms of payment.
No coins in any foreign currency will be accepted by the Banks or as payment at other establishments.
Currency Exchange and cashing of Travelers Cheques can be done at the bank upon presentation of your passport. Banking hours in Barbados are Monday to Thursday between 8.00 am to 3.00pm. and Friday 8.00am to 5.00 pm. Some banks outside of Bridgetown are open on Saturdays until midday.
ATM cash points are located liberally across the island of Barbados for your convenience, display of the Cirrus label at the ATM indicates that Visa and Mastercards may be used for cash advances.
Most Hotels will also have a Cambio for currency exchange or this service may be provided by Hotel Reception for your convenience.
By law in Barbados only Commercial Banks are allowed to issue foreign currency, when making a purchase please be aware that you will receive your change in the local currency.
Banking Services are available at the Grantley Adams International Airport for your convenience during regular business hours. There is also a Currency Exchange Booth in the Departure Area should you wish to exchange any remaining Barbados currency before leaving the island.
