This private elementary school is located at Francia, St. George on the grounds of an elegant plantation great house by the name of Francia Great House. Overlooking the St. George Valley and resting on a wooded hillside near to Gun Hill Signal Station, this elementary school is new to the island of Barbados and offers a firmly rooted and well balanced educational system for children in Barbados.

Our Philosophy

The founders of the school came together from a common desire to provide their children and the children of others with an environment that sought to educate the whole person. The school is grounded on the Christian faith and it seeks to prepare young children to recognize goodness; to contribute to society; to practice tolerance towards others and to have strong family and community bonds. While striving for academic excellence the school believes that active participation in the arts and sports is an integral part of the individual's learning experience and wholesome development as a human being.

Our Logo

Our school logo is the tree within a circle surrounded by the school motto, "Goodness, Discipline and Knowledge".
The "branched tree" is a symbol for growth, strength, protection, knowledge, longevity and diversity and at Providence Elementary School we seek to encompass all of these within our motto that surrounds it. 
Great effort was made to ensure that our school was deeply rooted with strong values and principles from its inception and that these values and principles would stand the test of time so that our school would grow and flourish.

Curriculum

The school is aware of the importance of the Barbados Common Entrance Examination to our student body. In pursuit of academic excellence, the Barbados curriculum will be delivered with an integrated multi-disciplinary approach. Regardless of the subject taught, the arts and physical education will be woven into the teaching methods, ensuring a creative approach to the development of the whole child.

Academics

Mathematics and English form the core for our academic programme. Spanish as a second language is taught formally from Infants A. In Social Studies the social structures in Barbados and the Caribbean region will be investigated as designed by the curriculum targets. However, attention will be given to other parts of the world as many of our students have roots in different countries. Integrated science uses the arts, mathematics, language and measurement tools to examine plants, animals, weather patterns, the earth, the human body and other aspects of everyday life. Knowledge, skills and an appreciative attitude will be stressed in all areas of subject inquiry. Socio-emotional development, the values of co-operation and respect and the development of peace making skills will be addressed through formal lessons and reinforced on a daily basis in a natural, manner of behavior expectations and positive reinforcements and celebrations. Health and family life education is addressed in topics relevant to the student's developmental stage beginning at early skills of self grooming to knowledge of good hygiene, family belonging and diversity, nutrition and healthy expressions of feelings, needs and conflict resolution.

The Arts

Visual Arts is a prescribed curriculum that will be taught on a weekly basis focusing on developing artistic expression of picture making and storytelling. A variety of media will be used. Dramatic Arts makes use of imaginative role playing, story creation and body movement. Artistic expression in all areas will be explored in regular lessons as well as in the integrated approach to the curriculum. Songs, rhymes, music appreciation and choral singing will all be part of the Music programme. Opportunities to explore the world of music will ensure that the student's talents are brought to light. Basic instruments such as the recorder will facilitate confidence with the pursuit of other instruments i.e. piano, strings, etc. The school has an Arts & Crafts center located in the Old Carriage House. This location is ideal for the development of many of the traditional art and craft studies such as painting, weaving, pottery etc. The arts will be part of the regular school program as well as part of extra curricular activities. The surroundings at Francia facilitate the integration of the arts with the natural environment.

Physical Education

The school has ample grounds to facilitate a host of outdoor activities. The grass fields will facilitate group sports and other activities. The track around the property is ideal for cross-country runs. As well, there are endless possibilities for nature trails. The values of good sportsmanship, self discipline, and personal fitness will be taught throughout the curriculum.

Computer Science

A computer will be available for educational use in each classroom. A computer lab will exists in the main building of the school with sufficient terminals for individual class instruction and research by both students, and faculty.

Scholarships & Bursaries

Providence Elementary School operates a funded bursary program to assist families of students who are citizens or residents of Barbados. Bursaries are determined annually up to a maximum of a predetermined percentage of the school's base tuition fee subject to availability of funding and are available on application to all qualifying students. In order to qualify for a bursary the student's family must produce documentary evidence in support of their request for financial assistance. For families who do not qualify for bursary assistance there is also the option of applying for financial assistance by way of structured payment plans for fees and levies to assist in cash flow planning and budgeting.
