Broad Street, Bridgetown, St. Michael, Barbados Pocket Guide

Broad Street

Located in the capital city of Bridgetown, Barbados, Broad Street is certainly the fulcrum of the city. Dominated by major banks, malls, restaurants, duty free shopping experiences and a wealth of history, this street passes right through the center of the city.

Ironically enough, Broad Street was a once part of a long narrow street that was named Cheapside. Present day Cheapside is now located to the Western end of the city where the General Post Office, Cheapside Market and a few other businesses can be found.

Shopping on Broad Street

Shopping on Broad Street is a clear choice for visitors to the island of Barbados as this is where most of the duty-free shopping is done. Cave Shepherd & Co., Harrisons, Diamonds International, Colombian Emeralds and Little Switzerland are but a few duty-free shopping stores that continue to attract the attention of bargain hunters on this street.

Cosmetics, wines and liqueurs, top jeweler’s outlets, leading brands of clothing and more are all found on this stretch of street.

Duty-free shopping in Barbados is by no means restricted to Broad Street as there are many other duty-free shops that can be found in the smaller towns that make up our island Barbados. These towns include Speightstown, Oistins and Holetown.
