Zen Restaurant
If cuisine from exotic far-away lands appeals to you, and you are not staying at the Crane Resort in St. Philip, then this trip to the east of Barbados is non-negotiable. Zen Restaurant, the focus of which is Japanese and Thai food, has caught the attention of the international Zagat surveys and has copped the top spot for dining in Barbados for the last two years!
Being a Japanese restaurant, sushi dishes are an absolute given. It is, however, the preparation and presentation of these dishes that make the difference. When it comes to sushi appetisers, they have created Gyoza (pan grilled pork dumplings), Tamago (fried egg cake) and Abe Emi (sweet shrimp) and the list is much longer, you can spend the entire night nibbling on the appetisers. The sushi main items are just as tauntingly tempting. Visitors to the restaurant speak of the Teriyaki Chicken and Beef and the Lobster Kabayaki. The Deluxe Nigri is the Chef's choice and twelve (12) assorted pieces are attractively plated for your dining pleasure.
For those persons who prefer Thai cooking, a full menu is available. One sample appetiser: Goong Tod Kiew Waan (breaded tiger prawns stuffed with crabmeat and curry). Compared to some other dining establishments, there is a choice of at least four soups from which a selection can be made. This is a refreshing change!! Tom Yum Goong (a traditional Thai soup) is but one two and doesn't it just sound good. For lovers of curry, there are at least seven to choose from. Need we say more?
The name Zen speaks for itself. Open for dinner only: 6:00pm to 9:00pm (Closed on Tuesdays) 00-12
